Deadlines

A short video explaining deadlines & emergencies

Here at Turing College, deadlines are a way to help learners manage their pace. We have a self-paced learning model, which gives learners flexibility choosing their goals, study schedule and reflects their individual needs & capabilities. Depending on your circumstances and study type (UZT fund, scholarship, tuition plan), the deadlines may be recommended or mandatory.

The exact deadlines will differ with each batch and, of course, individually if any emergencies appear.

📍Why Deadlines Matter

Typically, we have deadlines for the following reasons:

  • To ensure that your pace will be "healthy." It's easy to delay or procrastinate when there is no agreed end point or when you know that you need to finish the program after many months in the future. Deadlines help to avoid this and keep you on track throughout the whole program.

  • To encourage a smooth flow of studying. Deadlines help you to consistently study each day and help to move towards your end goal - getting into the data market, becoming Data Analyst or Data Scientist;

  • To set expectations. Deadlines make clear what we're expected to deliver and when. You can control your study time, be flexible on your schedule, but still, keep up with set pace requirements. Nobody wants to finish the program after 2 years, right?

For deadlines to have positive effects, they need to be clearly visible and well communicated. That is why we are here for you with our new Platform feature.

📍Deadlines in the Platform

From now on in the Platform, you'll see the date, which will state the deadline for the current sprint or module. It will be visible under your roadmap.

You will receive one reminder 4 days before the deadline reminding you to book a review. If you’re not ready for submission when 4 days are left, that moment is the last call to ask for a deadline extension. Planning and good time management is the key, like in a real job.

You will receive a reminder for the upcoming deadline in several formats:

  • Discord personal message;

  • Email;

These reminders will allow you to remember the upcoming deadline and take appropriate action.

If your speed is good and you finish the Sprint earlier - congratulations, you'll have extra days for the next one. If the deadline is not met, please request for deadline extension beforehand. You can do it via the Platform.

Time reserve

Completing tasks sooner is recommended because you will build your time reserve. For instance, finishing 14 days long deadline in 4 days will increase your time reserve by 10 days (14 - 4 = 10 days), so you will have more time for your next deadline. If your next deadline is 14 days long, then you will have 24 days to complete it.

We recommend always focusing on completing sprints sooner than the defined deadline, as being close to the deadline puts you at a high risk of missing it. This will help you to build up a time reserve and reduce stress while working on sprints.
