TC

Turing College

The Platform

A custom-made learning platform that unifies all educational processes in one place and enables innovative methodologies. It is the core tool of Turing College: https://intra.turingcollege.com.

Learner

A person who has registered for a course here at TC and has successfully completed all the admission steps to join the program.

Staff

The Turing College internal team

Part

The smallest collection of content in Turing College. Multiple parts make up a sprint.

Sub-project / Non-project part

Parts of a sprint that do not contain a project needing a review. Completing the quizzes in these sub-projects is a minimum requirement to be able to continue to the main project.

Project / Project part / Graded task

An essential part of the Turing College curriculum. The project implies a practical task, which you need to do to move further through the curriculum. It is the main goal and activity of most of the sprints. It is the last part of each sprint.

Sprint

A collection of parts ending with a practical project part

Module

A collection of sprints

Capstone project

A larger practical task at the end of some modules that can take the duration of a whole sprint. It allows you to practice all of the skills you’ve learned throughout the module or even in multiple modules.

Specialisation module

An optional module that you can choose if you are interested in a particular topic of a course.

Project review

A 1-1 meeting booked through the platform required to progress towards the next sprint. Read more.

(previously called a “correction”)

Review points

Receiving a review costs 1 review point. Performing a review usually provides 2 review points. If a learner does not have any points left, they cannot receive a review until they earn more review points. Read more.

Program

Collection of modules clustered around the same specialization (e.g., data science, data analytics, data engineering, web development, digital marketing).

Stand-up

A meeting led by an STL during which learners share what they’ve learned, ask questions and get assistance. Attendance of 1 per week is highly recommended. Read more.

Open session

A meeting led by JTLs or STLs meant to provide in-depth support to other learners. Learners are free to join and leave anytime. A much less official and less structured meeting compared to stand-ups. Attendance of 2 open sessions is mandatory in the first month. Read more.

Virtual Classroom

A voice channel meeting on Discord which resembles the experience of studying together with others and a mentor in a real classroom. Read more.

Turing College intro week

The first week of Turing College dedicated to intro sessions, team building, and social activities to help learners create meaningful relationships with staff and cohort peers.

CMT

Coffee machine talks: non-regular events with speakers on various topics relevant for most learners. The format is meant to be interactive, with everyone being able to discuss with the presenter.

TC endorsement

A process that learners go through at the end of a program, involving multiple steps to prepare them for job search (such as mock interviews, LinkedIn review, and smart-resume creation). A learner needs to have followed the deadlines and attended stand-ups regularly to be eligible.

STL (senior team lead)

A professional IT specialist with deep knowledge of the field and appropriate teaching experience. Most STLs are team leads in the real companies as well so they know how to help you grow the fastest. An STL’s role is to answer and support learners in their learning journey from the very beginning to the very end. Read more.

JTL (junior team lead)

Junior team leads (JTL) are select top learners who choose to dedicate a large proportion of their time to helping others. JTLs get a scholarship for these activities. Read more.

Discord

One of the main communication tools for all learners, staff, and team leads. Used for quickly getting in touch with other learners or Turing College staff.

Zoom

One of the main communication tools for all learners, staff, and team leads. Used for calls and video conferences.

Remote first

Our learning model allows IT professionals to balance work and family commitments, with learning resources that are available anytime, anywhere.

Semi-self-paced

At Turing College we give learners a lot of flexibility in terms of the speed at which they progress. There are still deadlines that learners are expected to follow, but the deadlines can be mandatory and optional. Furthermore, deadlines can be extended using the deadline extension request form in the platform.

Soft skills

Soft skills is a general term for "non-technical" skills. It covers things like teamwork, communication skills, and problem solving. Soft skills can also include things like your attitude and mindset.
