1. | Dovydas' talk: data science careers | https://drive.google.com/file/d/16KqBEg0A7hlJngUWTuymu9JghQ8Wewr4/view?usp=sharing | Dovydas talk about the current situation in the industry regarding different roles that you can pursue in data. Since “Data Science” and various roles related to it do not yet have a universal definition, it is useful to have a unified vocabulary to use inside Turing College to better understand each other and avoid miscommunication. Also, the huge variance of what a single role name can mean in different companies means that it’s vital to have your own understanding of what types of exact work (not job title) you want to do and not to dismiss any opportunities just because of their title (e.g. a ‘data analyst' role can sometimes involve more data science and machine learning that a ‘data science’ role in another company). In the Q&A part, Dovydas also mentions how the size of the company and it’s experience with data science strongly impacts the kind of roles that they will be searching for - the more mature a company, the more it will be able to specialise (growing companies are therefore good to have in the radar for when they start looking for the exact role that you might be interested in) |
